The 8th edition of the ISC-FICCI Sanitation Awards 2024 is here to recognise and honour organisations and individuals, from dedicated leaders to emerging talents, who are making significant contributions to transforming sanitation in India and acknowledge those who are driving positive change for a cleaner, healthier, safer, and more equitable nation. More than just accolades, the ISC-FICCI Sanitation Awards serve as a powerful catalyst for change. These awards showcase the excellent work that is happening in the sector, besides bringing newer avenues for investment and businesses to the fore, benefitting the nation and its people at large. Throughout the last seven years, the ISC-FICCI Sanitation Awards have played a critical role in highlighting the works of corporates, financial institutions, startups, NGOs, government entities, and various other organisations and individuals who are bringing about a positive transformation in India's sanitation landscape.
Last year’s edition of the awards saw enthusiastic participation from Women changemakers where the majority of applicants were women Gram Pradhans, reflecting India's progress toward gender equality and the increasing leadership role of women in sanitation. A perfect example of the changing face of rural India is Ms Aspiya Banu, winner of the “Women Changemaker in Sanitation” category last year. Her efforts have led to numerous benefits, including a cleaner environment, reduced plastic burning, household-level wet waste management, a remarkable 90% increase in dry waste segregation, additional income for waste collectors, a drastic drop in waste-to-landfill, plummeting from 100% to just 8%, and more. Another sterling example of how ISC’s winners are creating a sustainable sanitation ecosystem is Spruce Up. Their contactless cleaning machine, JATAYU, is playing a vital role in enhancing the safety of sanitation workers and improving waste management efficiency. Their co-founders, Sumedh Bhoj and Abhishek Shelar, were also included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list under the Industry, Manufacturing & Energy category.
The ISC-FICCI Sanitation Awards distinguish themselves through a meticulous adjudication process. Our distinguished panel of jurors come from diverse institutional backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to sanitation. Headed by Padma Vibhushan Dr. R A Mashelkar, former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India, the panel is steadfast in its dedication to recognising only the most outstanding achievements.
The ISC-FICCI Sanitation Awards will felicitate winners across eleven categories:
