FIELD VISITS

Field visits are an integral part of ISC's efforts. During these visits, ISC representatives and volunteers travel to various locations nationwide to assess sanitation and hygiene conditions, identify challenges and opportunities, and engage with local stakeholders to develop solutions.
Field visits by ISC can be categorized into three types: community visits, industry visits, and government visits. Community visits are conducted in rural and urban areas to understand the challenges faced by people in accessing clean water and sanitation facilities. Industry visits focus on engaging with companies and businesses to promote sustainable sanitation practices. Government visits aim to advocate for policy changes and mobilize resources to improve sanitation infrastructure.
During these visits, ISC representatives interact with local residents, community leaders, government officials, and industry representatives to understand their perspectives and gather information. The data collected is used to develop innovative solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
ISC also uses field visits as an opportunity to conduct training and capacity-building sessions for local stakeholders. These sessions cover a wide range of topics such as the importance of handwashing, menstrual hygiene management, and sustainable sanitation technologies.
Field visits are crucial tools for improving sanitation and hygiene in India. By engaging with local stakeholders and developing tailored solutions, ISC is making a significant impact on the lives of millions of people across the country.

K-100 Koramangala

India Sanitation Coalition team led by Natasha Patel, CEO, along with IIT Bombay, CDD India, and officials from Urban Local Bodies of six towns in Goa (Mormagoa, Canacona and Mapusa) and Karnataka (Mangaluru, Kundapura-Udipi and Karwar) visited Koramangala, Karnataka, on August 8th, 2024.
They visited Koramangala to witness the success story of the K-100 project, also known as the Koramangala Valley stormwater drain. This project was designed to transform a stormwater drain into a scenic waterfront. K-100 is one of the major stormwater drains, with a total length of approximately 12 km.
There were smaller drains connected to the main K-100 drain. After a thorough study and assessment, it was observed that wastewater and solid waste from surrounding settlements were being directly disposed into the drain. To address these issues, the K-100 project was initiated by BBMP as part of the drain's rejuvenation. For this CDD India worked on the 2 km stretch of the drain by implementing the DEWATS project on the secondary connecting drain.

Devanahalli FSTP

India Sanitation Coalition team with IIT Bombay, CDD India, along with the officials from Urban Local Bodies of two states (six towns) - Goa and Karnataka visited Devanahalli, Karnataka, on August 8th, 2024.
The team visited CDD India's Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Devanahalli. The town mostly relies on onsite sanitation infrastructure as it does not have an underground drainage system. In order to tackle this problem, CDD India and BORDA collaborated with the Town Municipal Council (TMC) of Devanahalli to construct India's first Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP). This facility was built to treat the collected faecal sludge from the pits and septic tanks.
The project involved reusing digested and dried sludge from sludge drying beds to produce co-compost sold to farmers as soil conditioners. The plant has been operational since 2015 and efficiently run by the Devanahalli Town Municipal Council.
